and here's the kicker to "illegal fee collection" post below:

Posted by Kim on May 24, 2000 at 16:37:51:

so the person we wanted to take over the lease called the broker, read him this notice and he said (not in these exact words but generally) something to the effect of how he does not get the fee, it goes back to the management company! so she called the management company, started to ask them about the 'illegal broker fee law', as i will call it, and the manager started ranting and raving at her saying that he can rent to whomever he wants, go ahead and sue him, etc., etc., etc. he then hung up, called the broker and said that the broker could not rent this apt. to this particular girl. now there's GOT to be a law against this!!!! we, as the lessees, don't want to pursue this - we find it appalling that she can't take the apartment but we just want to get out of the apartment, ultimately - but we want to be sure that the management company can't hold us responsible for 'angering them' so to speak. anyone heard of such a thing? and if they do give us any grief, do we have rights to do something about this? if so, what?
