First, I do work insanely long hours so sometimes the only time it is possible to do laundry is in late evening. Secondly, I am friends with the person who lives above me and had him do a load of laundry at 11 pm to see if I could hear his machine and I could not. Thirdly, I try not to do my laundry late but sometimes it is inevitable. In the past four months, I would say that I have washed clothes past 10, no more than 5 times - and some of those times were on the weekend. Finally, if you knew me, you'd know that I am the furthest thing from a yuppie that there is.

: Unless you work at night and sleep during the day. I don't see what anyone would want to wash clothes after 10pm. Yes, during this time the building is quiet, and yes when you are restless this is something you can do, but consider the other tenants in your building. It is quiet because them are going to sleep. If you blast music, have loud parties and/or wash clothes when ever you want then the only other recourse is to call the police to shut you up.

: Legally they can file complaints with housing and the police against you and have the managing agent kick you out.

: : I live in a "luxury" rental building that has a washer and dryer and dishwasher supplied as part of the apartment by the managment company. The people beneath me complain to the Doorman at night that my appliances are disturbing them and that I cannot operate them after 10. (The building has "quiet hours" from 10pm to 7am - BUT this isn't in the lease.) When these people complain, the Security Guard/Doorman comes and asks me to stop washing clothes, etc. I tell the Guard that I have a right to wash clothes whenever I want. I also had a meeting with the property's manager and he agreed with me that since the apartment is furnished with these appliances that it's not my problem that the people beneath me can hear the machines.

: : My question is, what can I do/say to stop the Security Guard from beating on my door when these people complain?

: : Thanks
