Your landlord, new or old, would still have to give you 30 days notice then take you to court to evict you. This will probably take a couple of months and the judge will probably give you a couple more if you are paying your share. You'll need documents from Section 8 to prove your story to the judge.

Call or go to the Legal Aid office near you for more help or go to the Pro Se Attorney at the Queens Housing Court. (Manhattan HC has a Legal Aid office in it: maybe Queens does too...)
