So here is what you do,

Bring LOTS OF MONEY...$1000 for hotel rooms food cabs etc,...you will need to spends a lot on a hotel room because you will need Internet access.... PLUS $1500 for the rent PLUS $1500 for security and if you go thru a broker they will charge you 15% of a years lease $1500x12+$18,000 x15% equals $2700
So if you dont have $6700 available cash..... it will be a miracle if you get an apartment.....Plus you will have to have a JOB, a signed letter from your last landlord, and maybe you can hustle them..

If you live here then take time off from work use your sick days
vaction personal, check the NYT every night the Village voice,
Newsday, the Daily news Post all the on line ads... and start calling at
7 or 8 am then if you get a hold of a real landlord to show you an
apartment rush right over take a CAB...and have cash, checkbook
paystubs, letter form last landlord, etc to sign a lease on the spot......

You might get lucky, if not start again tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow.

: I am looking to get a 1BR or large Studio in Manhattan in august/september. Should I go through a broker or talk with doormen/supers? Do cheaper
: apartments come on the market in late summer or is it the same? Which neighborhoods are cheaper than others? I would like to pay a $1400 max,
: but that is my max. Anywhere is fine I just can't seem to find out any relevant info. Thanks
