Another question on breaking a lease

Posted by Laurie on April 02, 2000 at 18:42:22:

I'm currently leasing an apartment in a coop building. I informed my landlord on March 1st that I wanted to break my lease as of May 1st - the lease is until December of 2000. I did have 2 different people who were interested in the apartment and thought that I would be able to get out of the lease w/minimal problems.

Unfortunately for me, my landlord decided to sell the apartment. They want me to be responsible for the lease until they sell and close on the apartment - which they think will take until September.

I'm not really sure what my options are since I do have a lease and it seems impractical to get anyone to takeover the lease given that they'll need to move in a couple of months anyway.

Does anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.
