Thanks! The petition I received was the 'sloppy work' of lawyers.
I went to the housing clerk and found out that the petition I received, the index number -- belonged to the other tenant who was listed along with me on the document.
Right now there is no case in my name and the landlord has to serve me with another petition.
: : Tonite I found a "Notice of Petition Non-Payment Dwelling" attached to my door. I am named as the Respondent/tenanant and there is also a reference to -and- "John and/or Jane Doe" Respondent/undertenant after my name.
: : On the third page on the left another tenant (whom I do not know) is listed with her total debt while on the right of the page her rent 'owed' is listed and then followed by my former owed payments. It looks like our petitions somehow got merged.
: : My questions are: What is the significance of listing me as respondent followed by -and- "John and/or Jane Doe", Respondent/undertenant.
: lawyers do this to cover all bases: in case you might have a roommate or a subtenant, he can evict all of you.
: : Why is there another tenant's Petition merged with mine?
: really sloppy work by the lawyers, but could make the whole thing invalid: you'll have to let a lawyer read it: try the pro se office, 111 Centre St, 1st floor, 9:00am (9:30?)-5:00pm, M-F, til 7:pm Thurs. or go to a tenant clinic: WSTU = T-W, 6:00pm. Chelsea Th 6;30pm (7:30pm?)
