Co-Signer for Guarantee

Posted by Judy Vasseur on March 20, 2000 at 07:37:02:

I just helped someone get a rent stabilized apartment in Washington Heights.
I feel that I made a mistake and sort of got roped into this not realizing that it was required of me to sign a part of the lease, I thought I was just going to be a reference for her. So I'm feeling afraid of the future and what might happen down the line. I am not well off myself and have my own high rent apartment to worry about. I was wondering what are my rights in this case and if I have any protections under the law at all. This woman is not a close friend although I like her and have been working with her for 6 months, she seems very responsible. I regret getting involved in this now. any advise would be very welcome. thanks, Judy
