NYC landlady gets probation for Illegal Lockout

Posted by Anna on March 12, 2000 at 21:55:13:

From Monday 3/13, New York Law Journal:

A Crown Heights landlord, who was convicted on five misdemeanor
counts after a bench trial in January, was sentenced last week to three
years' probation, during which she will be barred from evicting one of her
tenants without first obtaining judicial approval. Brooklyn Criminal Court
Judge Richard N. Allman had found the landlord, Sue Simmons, guilty of
illegally locking one of her tenants, Elizabeth Parks, out of her apartment
three times and of dismantling her bathroom and placing the fixtures in
her living room, according to Assistant Corporation Counsel Rachel
Goldman. In addition to requiring that he approve any eviction of Ms.
Parks in the next three years, Judge Allman ordered Ms. Simmons to
provide rent stabilization leases to the other tenants at 96 Brooklyn
Avenue.
