I live in an apartment of a four family house in Queens, New York. None of the apartments is rent controlled or stabilized and there are no leases. A few months ago the building was sold. Two other tenants and I have washing machines. I have lived here for almost 9 years, one tenant has been here for 34 years and the other for about 4 years. The tenant below me has a problem with the kitchen sink backing up whenever I use my washing machine and when she uses hers, too. When she told the landlord he said we are not supposed to even have washing machines. Could he be right? Does he have a right to force us to get rid of the washers?
