Hi Sheila,

A landlord's mis-handled security won't help you. Even though Richard is being a bit gruff what he is saying about the amounts is relevant. All a housing judge would tell the landlord to do is pay the interest amounts which he could do easily. The judge will still want to know why you didn't pay the rent. Also not many people recognize, every time you renew your lease landlords can ask for an adjustment to bring the security up to the new lease amount. Sometimes the adjustment is more then the interest. Most landlords just don't bother. They often equal out. The best thing to do is wait for the eviction papers and then get a stay of eviction from the housing courts, you will then be given a hearing date. Go to the hearing explain your side make as many payments a s possible, keep good records and by this time you will be able to pay. Also a housing judge will give you some time. Just relax and stay on your landlords good side, and don't offend their ego. Try not to take anything personal, stay nice and stay professional.
Good Luck,
Kerry
