I live in NYC, written lease, building w/ 60 units....

when I came home friday evening, the fire dept had destroyed the front door of my apartment (& a lamp that was by the door). they said they did it because they had a call about a leak & they thought it was coming from my apt (it wasn't). they were gone when I got there, but some police were watching my door. the police told me that the landlord was responsible for compensating me for new locks & the lamp & replacing the door. the landlord says the city is responsible for the compensation & he won't budge. WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO???? WHAT SHOULD BE MY NEXT STEP???? HELP!!!!!!
