: It's me again! Albany, NY, Late 1800's apartment, 5 in building, no written lease.
: Got my 280 gallon oil tank TOTALLY filled on 12/28/00 (cost $170), Well turns
: out it is now totally empty as of 1/18/00. We have been very careful about keeping
: the heat at 55-60 during the day when we are at work & 60-65 at night. When we moved
: in we were told that all the other apartments were running off gas heat, but not
: from the LL himself. Does anyone think that our oil is being used in others
: apartments? THis just seems ridiculous-as oil is "said" to be a more affordable
: form of heating. What are the opinions on this matter? The other thing is that we
: have no HOT water at all! Just cold water coming through the hot water pipes!
: We CAN NOT live in this apartment in these conditions!! Any suggestions are welcome!

What Fred said: plus:

We use 280gal no2 oil in ten days for 8 units, about 6000 sq feet of living space.

Pretty sure there's a law which says if you pay for your own heat (we don't), the landlord must give you accurate estimates before you sign the lease.
