landlord not renewing lease with no stated cause-legal??

Posted by Terrie on January 15, 2000 at 19:22:58:

I have only been in this PA apt for one year and my lease ends on March 31. I have just received notice of non renewal of lease. I am beside myself. My rent has been late only once and I made sure they had cash in hand within one day of learning of my check not clearing. I did have a boyfriend who was disruptive and he put boot marks in my door, but he has been gone for at least 6 months. I don't want to move all of my things again. What, if any recourse do I have? I have not been served the certified version of the letter, but only the mailed copy thus far. I don't know it they can just put me out or what their rights are? I plan on calling Monday to see if something can be worked out, but I believe they are holding this one "episode" over me. I have an ederly neighbor who lives below me and I am sure she would speak on my behalf. Totally lost!!! Can anyone direct me??
