There is nothing in what you have quoted in the message that started this thread that says you can avoid paying rent for the full 7 months of the lease. What you have quoted says how you can avoid an automatic month-to-month renewal: give notice at least 60 days prior to the end of the lease. If there is a month-to-month extension, you can terminate the month-to-month tenancy by giving at least 30-days notice prior to the end of the month.

:
: My 7 month lease term is from 8/31/99 - 3/31/00. I gave 60 day notice to vacate
: on 12/12/99 saying 2/29/00 would be last day we would be in apartment. Per the
: way I read the lease, giving 60 days notice is required before leaving within the
: first 7 months and only 30 days notice is required if I were to stay longer than
: 7 months when my lease would be in the month-to-month phase.
