Manufacturing Districts: Permitted Uses

[1] Uses in Use Groups 11A, 16, 17 and 18 are required to comply with the performance standards set forth in Section 42-20 to minimize adverse environmental impacts on neighboring areas.

[2] In M1 Districts with the suffix D, limited new residential uses on smaller sites that meet specific criteria are permitted by City Planning Commission authorization.

[3] Certain retail developments that are over 10,000 square feet require a City Planning Commission special permit.

[4] In M1-5A or M1-5B districts, joint living-work quarters for artists are permitted in buildings (of certain sizes) erected prior to December 15, 1961. In M1-5M and M1-6M districts, conversion of non-residential buildings erected prior to December 15, 1961 is permitted provided that a specified amount of floor area is preserved for commercial and manufacturing uses.

[5] Certain retail uses are prohibited or limited to developments of 10,000 square feet or less.
