Anyone interested in obtaining renter's insurance should make as complete an inventory as possible of the items to be covered. It is wise, if possible, to put receipts with this inventory for any items for which you have them. Some companies have minimum amounts for coverage and you must have belongings that amount to the minimum before a policy will be issued. It should also be noted that most companies will not insure one person in a house or apartment unless the roommate(s) are also covered. You should discuss this with your roommate(s) before moving in. Obviously, it would be to your advantage to get coverage. There can be complications if you move to a new location or get a new roommate. You should discuss this with your insurance agent prior to purchasing a policy.
For your assistance in finding insurance that suits your needs, the Off-Campus Student association has prepared the following list of insurance agents in Stillwater who will be happy to work with you in assessing and addressing your renter's insurance needs.
