Giuliani Changes Rent Control Battle Tactics

WABC Eyewitness News, May 24, 1997

New York City's mayor says he's committed to fighting for an extension of the regulations that millions of city renters depend on. Those laws, which strictly control rents on a million city apartments, expire on June 15th.

In recent weeks, lawmakers have proposed a series of compromises to regulation elimination, as the public outcry has grown louder. So far, none have satisfied everyone. State Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno wants to abolish rent control completely.

Giuliani says he will spend Thursday in Albany meeting with lawmakers. The issue is likely to go right down to the June 15th deadline.
